After changing from POP to IMAP I am experiencing slow responses (including Thunderbird not responding) and repeated messages to change my password. My work around is to delete all saved password from Thunderbird, close and re-open Thunderbird, enter my existing password and get Thunderbird to save it. I also have to re-enter my password when sending emails. After this Thunderbird works OK (but very slow to get new incoming emails) for a few days. Then I get a message that my password is not accepted and to enter a new password - none of which are accepted. My impression is that this message occurs when Thunderbird updates server folders Draft, Sent or Deleted. Encryption synchronisation problem with the server? When things are working, on opening Thunderbird the list of new emails is shown but cannot be opened for some time. During this wait Thunderbird not responding msg occurs if I try another action like moving the cursor to see an old email. Any suggestions on how to resolve my problems? Tony Caporn

It turns out that my problem was due to an interaction of Thunderbird and McAfee antivirus software. This was set to scan incoming mail attachments causing Thunderbird not responding msg. Turning off email attachment scanning fixed my problem Tony Caporn
