Is two step verification used to sign into Firefox? If so, two step verification would require the use of a phone number to send a code to the person logging in and entry of this code into a specific location or on a specific page. Using 2FA for the Firefox Account is not mandatory, you need to enable this yourself in the account settings. 2FA works by using a TOPT code generated by an authenticator app on a mobile device and not via SMS or email.
