I tried all the tricks on the book to set an ATT.NET e-mail account on Thunderbird, which I just recently downloaded. First attempt was with the original e-mail password with both selections manually available and suggested by ATT: POP3 and IMAP. Always I got the error:

"Unable to log in at server.Probably wrong configuration, username or password."

Second I tried with the secure mail key originated in the ATT account as password, again with both options: POP3 and IMAP. and always I got the same error message before mentioned. I tried to enter the password as encrypted with the secure mail key, but TB automatically convert to "Normal Password" Thunderbird has been for years my preferred system to review my e-mail messages, but since ATT changed the system to the secure mail key system it does not work anymore, by the way, with Yahoo mail all my .net account are working perfectly. Any one can give me guidance how to setup this account? I am attaching copy of the failing setup screen

Try in Windows safe mode with networking and see if it "just works" as there have been recent updates my guess is it will because you have other software on your computer that is the problem. ATT offer McAfee as their security suite and it has been having issues with mail clients since at least 2012 that I know of. So if you use that it may well be the issue, not Thunderbird.

You can create a log of what is happening in the background as I describe here https://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com/2021/10/logging-new-account-wizard.html

That might shed some more specific light on the subject or but it will not preclude third party software causing the errors.
