Firefox paste is not working

more options

Multiple times this has happened, and it recently started again. If I copy text or images and attempt to paste them into any website using Firefox, the paste does not work. Text will look like it is pasting an image, but there is some shadowy text behind it. When I click into the field where I pasted, the text/image that was pasted will disappear.

Pasting images is similar. The image pastes far too large and will disappear when clicking into the field where it is pasted.

This renders Firefox effectively non-functional for anything I need to do. I will have to use a different browser unless/until this is fixed.

I have rebooted. I have cleared cache and cookies. I REALLY don't want to reset and have to set up extensions again since this includes password managers, etc. I attempted to set dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled with no change.

The left image is how it is pasting. The right image is how it SHOULD paste.

Your second snapshot states that you are using "safe mode" now called troubleshoot mode. That suggests the issue could be hardware acceleration or your preferences.

I see reports of problems caused by so-called 'refresh'. If you decide to use it, at least backup your profile first in case data disappears. It would be better to create a new profile, which you can do with Firefox open or closed.

Just for the record, that preference definitely needs to be set to true for fancy editors to handle your paste. But even then, due to some historical differences between Firefox and other browsers, the scripts that intercept pastes may not work correctly.

Your screenshots show image pastes, right? Did you capture the images to the clipboard using the Screenshot tool? When I test that, it looks like your second image:

I don't tweet, so I don't know whether that is good or bad.

I had a thought about your first screenshot. Web pages can be made editable by adding the contenteditable attribute to an element. That invokes a primitive built-in editor that may bypass scripts intended to handle your pastes and overwrite important elements of the layout. Obviously bad news for complex sites.

Can you think of any add-ons or user scripts you are using that might be applying the contenteditable attribute to forms on sites where you're having problems?
