Running Win 8.1; currently have Thunderbird ver 24.6.0; looking to add-on calendar; is it best to upgrade Thunderbird 1st to latest ver & then add calendar?

Currently running Windows 8.1; currently use Mozilla Thunderbird 24.6.0 for my emails; I would like to add-on a calender; want to know if it is better to look for an older calendar add-on to work with 24.6.0 or if it is better to first upgrade Thunderbird to a more current version and then add-on the most current calendar?

In addition, what is the process to upgrade Mozilla Thunderbird without losing all emails in my Inbox and Saved local folders.

Thanks.

technically there is no process to upgrade. However a backup is never a bad idea. Things can always go pear shaped.

Backup info here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb#w_backing-up-a-profile

As the add-on site default to the latest version and the calendar is re release with ever Thunderbird version an upgrade is the simple way forward.
