My computer crashed, and now I seem to have lost all my passwords in Firefox. I was using Firefox 35.1 in Mac OS 10.8.5. I tried updating to Firefox 38.05 but that didn't help. I searched the forums, but could only find information for windows. I have a MacBook Pro.

When I look for my saved passwords under the Security tab, it is empty.

I tried restarting my computer, restarting Firefox, unchecking and rechecking the Save passwords box.

Is there anyway to find or restore my lost passwords.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

If you use the Time Machine then try to restore the file(s) from that backup.

For the names and passwords you need the logins.json and key3.db files.

Thank you for the quick reply to my question.

I started Firefox in the Safe mode, but when I did, there was no Preferences under the Firefox menu. The only option under the Firefox menu was Quit.

I tried to restore an older version of the Profile folder from a Time Machine Back Up, but still nothing showed up under Saved Passwords.

Thank you for helping me, but I haven't been able to solve it yet.
