How can I turn off notifications of new emails popping up on screen?
Just updated to Yosemite OS on Mac and now I get a "ding" and a little pop-up box notifying me of new emails and other stuff and am not finding any place in preferences to turn it off.

New emails "and other stuff"? What kind of other stuff?
Does this occur while you have your webmail inbox open in a tab, but it isn't the tab you are actively using? Some mail sites may have notification features that integrate with Mac, although I'm a Windows user and not personally familiar with that.
