transfer Thunderbird from old mac to a new mac

more options

Hi! I'm about to get a new computer and I need to understand the best way to move Thunderbird with all my emails to the new computer.

Should I just install Thunderbird in the new computer and then add my e-mail accounts from scratch? Or is it better to find this profile folder, copy and paste it to the profile folder on the new computer? Which way is best? I run mac OS 12.7.3 on the old computer and will update to a new Mac Book Pro computer with the lates OS. The Thunderbird-version is now 115.8.0 in the old computer.

To my knowledge, the setup on mac is similar to windows. That is, there is a folder named Thunderbird that contains a profiles.ini file and a profiles folder. You can verify that from your OS's file manager. If true, these steps will work: - exit TB on old machine - copy the Thunderbird folder to external media - install TB on new machine and exit - copy the saved Thunderbird folder over the top of installed default Thunderbird folder - restart TB

That's what I thought. Will try that. Thanks again for all the help! Johanna
