I recently installed Firefox to replace Chrome. Sadly I quickly realized that the youtube player does not display as desired. It not only sets the video resolution to the lowest but the whole player resolution is reduced. This way it is not a solution to just increase the video resolution. Aiming to solve this problem I updated Adobe Flash to the newest version and started Firefox in safety mode with all Add-ons disabled, hoping this would solve the issue, sadly it did not. I did not encounter this issue with any other browser like chrome or Internet Explorer. Thank you for your help and support.

The resolution quality is negotiated in the SIP packets before your browser established the connection with the multimedia server you are accessing. You can turn off hardware acceleration and upgrade your graphics webgl with this reference: Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
