Before the change the From field would display the senders Name (link) or Address if no name was supplied. After the change only the Group name/ e-mail (link) is displayed in the Sender field.

The sender is now displayed near the bottom of the page as "Posted by: xxxx xxxx xx_xxxxx@gmail.com"

Oddly enough the pop-up notification window does display the original senders name. Whatever change was made occurred on May 09, 2014. Webmail applications including Blackberry do not seem affected by this change.

Any suggestions?

Chosen solution

Try Tools menu (ALt+T) > Options > advanced > reading and display and turn of the use of display names in the address book.

Does that make the display list and the notification match?

If yes, you can turn the option back on, and locate the groups email address in your address book and turn off the use display name for that entry. Note that the next version of Thunderbird will be ceasing the use of the address book as a white list for graphics, so you may be able to simply remove the address in the next version.

There is a longer discussion about the changes Yahoo made in this thread.

Thanks. That makes the mud a bit more transparent. I'll mention here again that the pop-up e-mail alert does not suffer from this problem to the extent that it will show the original sender's AD.

Worked like a charm. Thanks.

Was that step one or two or both... I just do not see it in my daily build so I am seeking confirmation so I can pass it on.

Sorry, step one. FWIW on my version, 24.5.0, the Options window is not very stable. It took several attempts to actually get the advanced screen to come up.
