My Firefox Add-on screen showed me that my Shockwave Flash 16.0.0.257 needed to be updated. I tried to update but had no success. I then used the Flash Uninstaller and removed it. I then went to the Adobe website and downloaded Flash 17.0.0.134. When I went to my Add-on screen, the new version had been intalled successfully but the old version 16.0.0.257 was back also with the message that it needed to be updated. I've tried everything I know to get rid of the old version with no success. Can you help?

That is very odd. When you have time, please contact Adobe Support https://forums.adobe.com/community/flashplayer

Follow these instructions Very Carefully. If you are not sure of what to do . . . STOP and ask for help.

Type about:plugins<enter> in the address bar. Now search for the plug-in.

Example; Adobe Acrobat File: nppdf32.dll,nppdf32.dll Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\browser\nppdf32.dll,C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AIR\nppdf32.dll Version: 11.0.9.29 State: Enabled Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 11.0.9

This will show you the path to that program. Copy the Path Only. Also note the name of the file, and remember it. Now Close Firefox. Open your file browser and paste the path in the address bar. Find the file, and delete it. Now you can restart Firefox. Warning ! Remember to delete the right program.

Try doing this again. Is the issue still there?

Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows Uninstall Flash Player | Mac Then reinstall the latest version.

Flash Player Version 17.0.0.134

Please disregard my previous reply. I used the incorrect link. Sorry.

But I did as suggested and still have both versions on my Add-on page with the same error message for the 16.0.0.257.

I ran the uninstaller. Result - no Flash Player on my Add-on page. I ran the installer for Flash 17.0.0.134. Both versions are back on my Add-on page. If I try to disable the old version, it also disables my new version.
