I have a problem where Firefox will "forget" a saved password for a random website. when I try to log in, there is no autocomplete and it asks if I want to save the password, which it SHOULD have been ALREADY saved from a previous login from before. Firefox acts as if it never heard of my password for that website ever. how do I fix this random forgetfulness of Firefox?

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?

There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page to log you in automatically. The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server. If this "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you will have to sign in once again. You can remove this "remember me" cookie to make the website forget you and require you to sign in again.

  • Create a cookie 'allow' exception to keep such cookies, especially in case of secure websites and when cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
  • Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Exceptions

There is always a lot of confusion about passwords and websites remembering you (i.e. you tick a box on the login page), so I always ask for confirmation. If Firefox has saved the name and password in the Password Manager and you still see it there then it is possible that the server uses multiple domains. You might not notice this if this is about the URL that the form is submitted to. It is also possible that there is a script running on a web page that modifies the form fields if it happens all the time on a specific website.
