How to go back to previous version. Latest upgrade makes new windows appear less than a full new window should appear.

more options

I have my system set to tell me when a new upgrade is available. That happened today. I uploaded the latest upgrade. My Firefox is now sitting at 38.0.1.

I don't use tabs. I want a new separate window for everything I open. Since the upgrade this morning... when I open a brand new window it is fine. But when I click on something in that window when a new opens it doesn't appear to be a full new window. There are no tool bars and there doesn't seem to be any way to have any toolbars displayed. Therefore I have no control over that new window except to minimize or close. That's it. It is not appearing as a tab either.

This sucks! Was this intended?

How do I get back to the previous version before this morning's upgrade? Otherwise I will have to find another application to use other than Firefox because i don't like this at all.

Thanks,

ksburrus

Another workaround is to change certain hidden setting related to dialog-style windows. This will not require you to make any changes to how you use Firefox, but you might occasionally need to enlarge some small pop-up windows that were sized for a window with no toolbars displayed.

Here are the steps:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste feat and pause while the list is filtered

(3) For every preference that starts with dom.disable_window_open_feature. if it is not "true", double-click it to switch it to true.

You may find that you prefer this anyway, since sites can no longer strip these features out of pop-up windows.

This was not intended! To make a long story short, the problem is caused by this combination of factors:

(1) Tabbed browsing turned off (2) Private window (3) Site has added target="_blank" to the link

The new window opens without menus, toolbar, scroll bars, etc.

The currently known workarounds for private windows are:

(1) Use tabbed browsing (which I know you don't want to use) (2) Shift+click links to open in a new window with the standard features

Although the developers have started working on a fix for this, I don't know how soon it would be released. It could be several weeks.
