Some sites I visit seem to have an advertising partner ship with other sites. The will open the partner's site in either a new window or a new page, depending on the original site. This happens on a streaming news site and almost all porn sites. There are no saved forms, no saved cookies, no info at all. I've tried different ad block filters, setting Ghostery differently and searching for a script that can be used. This has been happening for a while and 2 weeks ago when shopping online at Walmart, Superfish decided to start doing my shopping for me. I think it hitched a ride on an extension. I ended up resetting Firefox after running some clean up software from Bleeping Computer to fix it. The unwanted sites are the biggest problem as I do not trust anything I don't open.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

If you go back and re-read my original post, I indicated that this is an issue that comes from what seems to be a "partnership" between some sites and another in their "network of friends". Ya open one site and another just tags along, opening either a new tab or a new browser window. The new browser will have minimal functionality. However, I did seriously take your idea to heart. I've been looking for some kind of malware that might cause this for months. I'm just now giving up on my search. What I need is to be pointed to where I can find info on permanently blocking certain URL s from ever opening no matter how they do it.

I did try an add-on called "Block Site". Problem is, it blocks everything by default. Won't even allow a Google search, and even if you white-list Google, you still can't click on any findings with any hope of it functioning.

Try Bluehell Firewall! :) It is a lightweight addon that blocks ads and popup sites.

The downside to this addon is that you cant whitelist sites...
