I am switching to Chrome because of the printer default issues. When can I expect this long-time issue to be resolved or will my switch be permanent?

more options

Every time I change a print setting, firefox makes that the default setting. For example, I want to print one document in landscape, and now all of my documents print in landscape unless I reset firefox or I might want to print to a different printer only once, but now that printer is turned into my default printer. This is a huge pain and I'm am tired of resetting firefox multiple times a day.

I love everything else about firefox, but this issue has me leaving it.

Please fix this issue that has been plaguing firefox users for years! And let me know when you do.

Thank you!

Chosen solution

Firefox defaults to saving a print setting as the new 'default'. You can change it to not save settings by toggling this pref in about:config.

print.save_print_settings default is true - double-click to toggle to false.

Do you print using Ctrl+p? If you print from the Print Preview screen, I think you will find it very easy to switch in and out of Landscape view. You can call that up using either:

  • "3-bar" menu > Print
  • (menu bar) File > Print Preview

Both of those call up the Print Preview screen and there is a toggle on the toolbar there to switch between Portrait and Landscape. Yes, Firefox will still remember it, but at least you will know immediately before printing and can easily switch it.

Now... if only I could give you a way to have Ctrl+p open that screen directly. Someone might know a way.

I also should mention that you can submit feature suggestions on another site, since they quickly get buried here in Support:

Wow, I had no idea. Apparently this was in Firefox 1.0. So many little tricks under the hood...

Thank you edmeister! That seems to have done the trick. All the other threads I read just had me reset the print_printer but as soon as I printed to something new, I would have to reset it again. I tested your solution today and haven't had to reset once all day! You're my hero!!!
