Every time I launch Firefox and go into settings I see that under privacy its displayed Firefox will: Remember history, but under security the check box for "Remember logins for sites" is grayed out. Now the funny part is if I change Firefox will: Remember history to Firefox will: Never Remember history, then restart then change back again to Firefox will: Remember history, the check box for remember logins for sites becomes usable. Then if I quit Firefox and launch again normally the original problem arises. Thanks for any help!

Update. I solved the problem, there was a line in the Windows system file that was always setting it to private mode every time the program launched. Thanks everyone for their suggestions!

What is your computer system and Firefox?

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-fix-preferences-wont-save

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

I don't about portable, or if it's different from normal FF. I've called the big guys to help you. Good luck.

What security software do you have?

If you have TrendMicro software then try to uninstall the TrendMicro Password Manager via the Windows Control Panel.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen or hold down the Shift key) to see if that has effect.

I tried on a machine that has Avira (enabled + disabled) and I tried on a fresh machine that doesn't have any security software and the same problem arises :S.
