Is there a way to set Firefox to not open the last tab open when Firefox itself is quit by pressing the *close tab* button on it?

I understand what session restore is and how it works. However, if I close the last tab open on Firefox, Firefox quits as expected, but the next time it is opened, the tab that was closed reloads. I understand that this should be the case if Firefox itself, not the tab, was closed with the X button, but I do not think this should be the case if a final tab is closed. Am I missing something here?

EDIT: I can't spell; I know. Sorry. EDIT: I realized I can edit questions, but I can't delete this.

What is the startup setting?

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox starts":
"Show my windows and tabs from last time"
    "Show my home page"
    "Show a blank page"

You can set the browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab pref to false on the about:config page to prevent closing the last tab from closing that window and make a close button appear if only one tab is open and to make it possible to close that tab.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

"Show my windows and tabs from last time." Because that's exactly what I want it to do. Just not when I close the last tab by the close tab button.

Just did that. That's pretty nice and an alternative, but not exactly the answer.
