cannot sign into Thunderbird or anything else without going through the google gauntlet. I want to take it off my computer but it is not listed as a program. How do I get rid of it?

Hi

Google is not necessarily a program on your computer, it is a company that provides a number of web services, such as email and maps as well as its core product - web search.

Firefox has a selection of links to different web search engines in the search bar at the top of Firefox. You can also change the home page to one of your choosing. Going further than than that will involve you choosing to use different web services such as Vimeo and openstreetmap.org.
