About six weeks ago I changed my default home pages to gmail inbox. However, almost every time I go into firefox now it asks me if I want to keep the changed default? It is fairly annoying. When I go into my options, I find the change I made is there, so do not know why the change is permanent?

It appears that you have issues related to syncing or saving the settings. Firefox has an in-depth guide on how to fix such problems. I would recommend giving it a read because I am not certain which one of the issues it could be. Link: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-fix-preferences-wont-save And as for worst case scenario, you could try reinstalling browser and see if that helps.
