Opened firefox, informed that it cant access bookmarks as it's currently in use. tried the restart pc method to see if it freed the file up from whatever was locking it. also tried renaming/deleting the places.sqlite file - still no luck

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page cannot repair places.sqlite then remove all places.sqlite files Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Errors when trying to verify the integrity of the places database file. tried the other 2 links below that for locked/not saved bookmarks but they didn't fix it either - reboot hasn't helped to fix the problem.

tried moving all copies of places.sqlite database and reopening firefox but i still receive the red bar at the top suggesting that bookmarks and history will have problems because the file is in use even though it has just created a new places.sqlite database

this is the error when trying to verify integrity: > Task: checkIntegrity - Unable to check database integrity > Task: invalidateCaches - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: checkCoherence - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: expire - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: vacuum - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: stats - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: _refreshUI - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task.

also tried a new firefox profile and this has not resolved the issue either
