Somehow, my password file became corrupt [logins.json.CORRUPT] for a while, I was able to log in to my usual sites (like facebook) even though the passwords were not showing in options>privacy and security>saved logins

anyhow...... I also have a work computer with firefox and thought I could export all my passwords from there --- The first thing I discovered was that the old add-on ['password import/export'] doesnt seem to exist anymore

OK, so I checked how to do it the manual way and copied logins.json and key3.db from my work PC to my laptop. now not only does it not work, but it overwrote the few passwords I manually recovered!!!

Please help or it means manually checking all my passwords on my work PC and writing them in again at home [in that case I might just abandon Firefox in favour of Chrome or something else}

You need to copy logins.json and key4.db for Firefox 58+ releases. If you do not have a key4.db, but only have logins.json and key3.db then make sure to remove an existing key4.db.

I have now made a manual - typed - backup of all my passwords from my work PC

Also, I have synced my work PC to my Firefox account...... so far it hasnt overwritten my work PC Firefox logins with blanks (which is what I was pessimistically expecting).... so, yay for that?!

this evening, I will try to sync my laptop at home and see if it recovers the passwords from the work PC, during the sync...........if not, then I say goodbye Firefox and spend the rest of the evening manually inputting passwords into chrome
