Since Thunderbird’s latest upgrade I get the error message: “Sending of password for user did not succeed. Mail server pop.orange.fr responded: [AUTH] Authentication failed.” BUT - I have not used burr.robert@orange.fr for over 5 years. I moved to aburden0@gmail.com which Thunderbird has always handled without a problem.

At the same time I now also get the error message : “login to server smtp.gmail.com with username clachan62@gmail.com failed”.

Clachan 62 @gmail.com is the recovery e-mail for aburden0@gmail.com.

This present problem means I cannot send or receive e-mails on my two gmail addresses. I suppose I could delete Thunderbird completely and go over to using Gmail, but I don’t want to do this as I like Thunderbird.

What do I do to resolve this problem?

Attempting to connect to an SMTP server would indicate that mail is being sent. You might want to look in the outbox folder.

Check your connection settings in account settings and ensure the connections security is set to SSl/TLS (Not STARTTLS)and authentication method is set to normal password.
