the firefox help tutorial says , quote 'to open bookmark manager select Bookmarks >manage bookmarks'. It shows 'manage bookmarks' immediately below 'bookmark this page'. The drop down menu on my firefox does not have the 'manage bookmarks' instruction on the menu. I am running firefox 3.6/win vista. and I am finding it difficult to organize my bookmarks .Any help would be much appreciated.

I thought it was gone also; it is now called "show all bookmarks".

Try: Going to the File Menu, click on Bookmarks, click on show all bookmarks. This should bring up the bookmark manager (ps. I've learned it's good to back them up!!).

I hope this helps.

Could you tell us what was shown in the drop down menu of your Bookmarks menu?

In Firefox 3 it is called Organize Bookmarks.

Manage Bookmarks was last used in Firefox 1.5

Where did you read that tutorial?

Hello! I have no "manage bookmarks" nor "Organize Bookmarks" on Firefox 4.0.1 There are only: "bookmark this page", "subscribe to this page", "set as speed dial" and "show all bookmarks". Can anybody help me? Wow, sorry, I found it, it`s just "show all bookmarks".

I would like to point out 2 things that you might consider before posting in an existing thread/question. Please check/consider the items below when posting in the future. Thanks

  • If you will look under the avatar and name for each poster in this thread, you will notice that the postings above yours were from 10 months ago.
  • If you look to the right of the original poster's question, you will see that the version the original poster used to post the question was Firefox 3.6.8

In Firefox 4, "Organize Bookmarks" has been changed to "Show All Bookmarks". If I remember correctly, "Manage Bookmarks" was last used in Firefox 2.

I'm not aware of any replacement for the old built-in bookmark manager. I tried using the "Old Manage Bookmarks 0.0.4" add-on (bypassing version checking using the add-on compatibility reporter add-on) with Firefox 6.0, but it had no effect (despite being enabled).

The best solution I can think of is if you use Xmarks to backup your bookmarks you can use tools -> xmarks -> myxmarks to bring up a web page that lets you organize the bookmarks. Then use tools -> xmarks -> xmarks settings -> advanced -> download to sync Firefox's copy of the bookmarks with the organized copy.
