A short time ago, I found I could no longer do a google search from the location bar. No idea why, when I had done previously - I hadn't been in 'about:config'. I followed the following directions:

1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page. 2. Search for the preference keyword.enabled. 3. Double-click the keyword.enabled preference to toggle it between true and false. false disables Internet Keyword searches. true enables Internet Keyword searches.

The preference was set at false, so I changed it to true and the problem was solved.

The same has now happened again, only this time I've found that the preference is already set at true. I don't know how to be able to google from the location bar again.

To get the Firefox 3.6 behavior for searching from the location bar on Firefox 4 you need to change a hidden preference.

  1. Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
  2. Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
  3. Locate the preference keyword.URL, double-click on it and change its value to the link shown below

Solved. Thank you!

Why would this have happened in the 1st place, and why doesn't the solution provided by Support work?

I hope a Support technician will see your answer and amend their webpage...

This has occurred again, already. I can't think of anything I've done which may have caused this.

Even since updating to FF5, the problem's still there.
