What's happened to being able to bookmark multiple tabs - I don't need it often but it's really useful when I do. I can't find it in FF4.

I'm having a problem with my webmail. I used to access the password field with a single click, now I have to click twice before the cursor is active. I run into this problem multiple times a day.

Open link in new tab: in FF4 I keep opening a new window by mistake - it's really annoying. Why was the position of this command changed in the shortcut menu. I use the command many times a day and my brain is too old to adapt easily.

Likewise the refresh button has moved. I use this button countless times a day - it's really annoying to find that I can no longer automatically refresh a page.

Chosen solution

The option to save all bookmarked tabs is still there, it has just been moved, (no idea why). You can still bookmark multiple tabs in firefox 4, right click on a tab for the option in a dropdown. Keyboard shortcut Ctrl +shift+ D also works.

This is not covered in either How do i use bookmarks? or bookmarks folders I will ask about this as it may be an omission someone could rectify

Thanks a lot - good to know I can still access it - I hope I can remember where to find it in future.

It would be to think, also, that it might return to the bookmarks menu.

With thanks and best wishes

The other problem, reversing the menu order, can be fixed using the menueditor add-on:

The reload button is now on the end of the location bar (where you type web addresses ) by default. It isa stip button whilsta page loads, and a reload button after a page has loaded. There are also options to use completely separate reload and stop buttons, or to add a button to the toolbar that changes between the stop and reload functions.

The changes may be made without adding any extension, the option used to be called customise (in my en-uk) or customize (en-US) and is now available from

  • Firefox Button -> Options -> toolbar layout ...
  • or by right clicking an empty space on a toolbar

Note the order of the buttons determines whether it displays as a merged button, or as separate stop and reload buttons.

I agree that the Open in new tab menu position being moved is very aggravating. I too constantly open in new window by mistake from muscle memory. It seems a lot of changes were made to FF4 just for changes sake. A lot of things that weren't broken, were fixed which is the definition of stupid if you ask me.

The Reload button is not so bad as it's easily moved. The toolbars area looks pretty bland since the horizontal dividers/seperators were removed too. If you want these back, you can edit your userChrome.css and add the line toolbar { border-bottom: 1px groove !important;}. Having to install a add-on to rearange the menu items back to were they were is aggravating, but it does the job. Overall, a lot of work is imparted on the user to undue changes made by the developers. I suspect that a fair number of users will revert back to 3.6 because of this and some might even jump ship. I hope a lesson is learned by those that think they're doing the community a favor by making such changes.

Thanks to all for various responses. Being able to change the right click menu and re-instate the status bar was brilliant.

I've recently been asked to update to v4 on my laptop but decided not to - it's too much hassle.

It may be that the changes to the interface are improvements from the point of view of new users - if those kinds of changes are contemplated for the future, then I'd welcome an option to revert the interface back to a named previous version.

I don't know about you but I think changes are often inspired by a vocal minority so that things that suit the vast majority are at risk of being altered because they don't suit the few. Is there a mechanism, in the development process, that would counter such a tendency?
