My firefox memory use has started spiking to about 2.5GB today - happens a few times an hour.
I have a Windows 7 x64 system with 4GB of RAM and am running FF12.
The memory usage will go down by itself to around 600-700MB after a few minutes, or faster if I close some tabs. CPU usage is also high, around 15-30%.
I have not installed any new add-ons or plugins in the last few weeks. When this happens I usually have only 4-8 windows open.

IF you want, you can try creating a New Profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
- Basic Troubleshooting - Make a New Profile
- Now start Firefox using this newly created profile.
IF that New Profile works then you can recover your History, Bookmarks and Passwords from the Old Profile.
Check and tell if its working.
