When I try to open www.gmail.com I get the following gobbled up text appearing on the page. www.gmail.com works fine in Internet Explorer 8. I don't like using Internet Explorer 8. I have tried to reset Firefox and run a complete anti-virus scan. But no success.

You can check the network.http.* prefs on the about:config page and reset all bold user set network.http prefs to the default value via the right-click context menu -> Reset.

Check at least:

  • network.http.accept-encoding: gzip,deflate

Hi, thank you for your reply. I followed your instructions:-

Typed in about:config

Searched for network.http.accept-encoding:

The Values were empty. I reset the values and this opens up www.gmail.com however each time I restart the browser or Windows, I have to repeat this process.

Is there anyway to save this setting so that I do not have to repeat this step each time I log onto Fireofox. What has caused this to happen? Thanks for your help.
