Dear Mozilla,

I have a Firefox 16 version, i would like to have this version as my download manager does not support latest versions of firefox. Regardless of selecting the "Never check for updates" option it still updates to latest version and i could not use my download manager to download.

Please fix the bug, if user selects it he means it, you cannot just upfate the browser without the users consent.

Because of this bug i have to uninstall and reinstall Firefix several times. Also there is a bug in the uninstall when i unselect to retain the personal bookmarks things, it does not retain the bookmarks afetr fresh installation, Please fix.

First, not updating to the most recent version of Firefox leaves you at a high risk of attack or infection by malicious websites (especially with an operating system that will no longer be receiving updates in less than a year). After every update of Firefox, there are security fixes that are publicly disclosed, meaning that users of older versions become vulnerable. You will be much better off either finding another download manager, or using the default download manager while staying secure. A little bit of learning a new system is far better than alot of pain and expense at a hacked or infected computer.

1) This reply does not answer my question on why the feature "Never check for updates" does not do as it is supposed to do.

2) And why Firefox uninstallation when i unselect to retain the personal bookmarks things why it does not retain the personal choices

3) Download manager i use is paid one not the free one, so it's not worth moving as other free download managers were not as good as this.

Your reply is counterproductive, evasive and bordering on condescending. I personally lost valuable time due to a setting being completly ignored by the firefox core update engine. config settings set currently to: app.update.auto FALSE

FYI Your UI is working correctly. The appropriate config settings get SET. Please do not evade. Can you find an answer for us? Sudden unwanted updates while involved with highly technical projects is more than just an inconvenience. I am more than happy to update, so spare me the nube lecture on security holes. However it must be done on MY schedule NOT YOURS!!!!

I'm not sure what app.update.auto does, but I have been using app.update.enabled (set to FALSE) for tuning off Firefox application updates for many years prior to this "new" update scheme.

Hello, also if you set the app.update.url to an empty string (in about:config) works.

thank you
