I have limited space on my C:\ (I set too small a partition when I first set up the computer and don't have the time to reformat the whole thing and start from scratch). I keep all my emails downloaded on my computer, but this is now taking up 5GB of valuable disk space for my OS. I have a second drive with plenty of space but cannot work out how to move the local folder from %appdata%\roaming\etc... Going through the Thunderbird settings I have found the section for the local folder, but it doesn't seem to want to let me move it. I have tried simply creating a new folder on D:\ but it tells me "The Local Directory path "D:\Programmes\Mozilla Thunderbird\Roaming Profile" is not suitable for message storage. Please choose another directory." I have tried copying the roaming profile data into this folder and then moving the location, as was suggest by the support article I found, but I get the same error. How can I shift my Thunderbird data from C:\ (my system partition) to D:\ (my storage partition)?

Copy your profile folder to the D drive, but not in a subfolder of Program Files (that's what leads to the "not suitable" error), and then use Profile Manager to point TB to the new location:

To start PM, Winkey-R and type thunderbird.exe -p
