I downloaded 7zip file compressor yesterday and afterward when I would try and open websites on Firefox I would get "This connection is untrusted" with most every website. The

www.facebook.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

The time on my computer is in sync. The "allow this certificate option" does not allow the certificate.

The big thing is that I lost all of my bookmarks. The last time they were saved to my computer was a year ago.

Most probably it wasn't only 7zip, but also some virus included. Can you provide URL to site from which you have downloaded 7zip?

Thank you kubahaha, I am pretty sure it was http://galleryhip.com/thoracic-outlet-syndrome-exercises.html

I have run Spybot and Malware and I had a "high alert" show up and fixed. But I think you are right. It looks like there may be something running in the background. I would be happy if I could just recover my bookmarks.

hello, a possible solution depends on different factors. please attempt to add an exception on the bottom of the error page & inspect the certificate (see the screenshot attached for instructions):

  • which issuer information does the certificate contain?

thank you!

ok, unfortunately the fiddler2.com issuer in certificates might be a sign of unwanted software present on your pc that is intercepting secure network traffic. please go into the system control panel and uninstall programs like BrowserSafeguard, BrowserSafe, SafeGuard or other software that sounds suspicious and didn't get installed by you intentionally.

afterwards, run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.

Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware

afterwards you could try to get back your bookmarks this way: press ctrl+shift+b and go to import & backup > restore and see if there's a restore point present from within the last days before the unwanted change happened...
