I am trying to get rid of the new firefox 30 "Speed Dial". The one with the mini tabs in the new tabs with the multiple favorites tabs that all show the same thing and the search bar that always uses yahoo. It is beyond annoying and I would really like to get rid of it. I have tried about:config and have restarted my firefox to no luck. Thanks

First check if this problem is not caused by any of your addons, especially Yahoo Application State Plugin You can read how to do it on this page: Disable or remove Add-ons You can disable speed dial by clicking in the little icon in top-right corner on speed dial page. If none of this works go to about:config and set browser.newtab.url to about:newtab

more options

Open a new window or tab. In the address bar, type about:config. If a warning screen comes up, press the Be Careful button. This is where Firefox finds information it needs to run. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Enter browser.newtab.url and press enter. browser.newtab.url tells Firefox what to show when a new tab is opened. If you want, right click and select Modify. You can change the setting to;

about:home (Firefox default home page), about:newtab (shows the sites most visited), about:blank (a blank page),

or you can enter any web page or about: page you want.

The same instructions are used for the new window setting, listed as browser.startup.homepage.
