After Firefox updated the "search" engine section, I tried to "manage" them from the drop down list. After the box came up under tools, I tried to check and uncheck the various search engines listed. I can neither check or uncheck any of the boxes next to the listed search engines.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

If you have any extensions installed, disable them one at a time and see if Options > Search works.

Just a guess - the Ghostery extension has caused problems in the Options panels for other users.
