hp envy 8.1 laptop hard drive crashed, HP to replace, are bookmarks gone forever, or can I retrieve
My laptop is going back to HP for repair, they are suggesting that my hard drive is failing and will be replaced. i am preparing for the return and finding my program discs etc. it dawned on me that i probably will lose all my firefox bookmarks and saved passwords as well. is there any hope of retrieving them. i have been backing up my hard drive to a portable hard drive but i dont see any internet or firefox apps saved. i appreciate any assistance to an old guy with limited computer ability.

If you have backed up your hard drive, you should be able to restore all of your old information. Firefox stores all of your information in a folder called the profile folder, so you need to copy the information in the backup profile folder to your new computer. On the old hard drive, you need to locate your profile folder. It will be located at drive:\Users\<Windows login/user name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ (you will need to enable the show hidden folders option first, article with instructions). Within that you should find a folder with a string of numbers and letters. Open that folder. On your new computer, install firefox, and type "about:support" in the address bar, then click the button labeled "show folder" or something similar (it will be located in a blue table under the heading "application basics". Then, quit firefox, and delete any files in the profile folder on the new computer. copy all of the contents of the profile folder on the backup drive (not the folder itself) into the profile folder on the new computer. When you reopen firefox, you should see your old information.
