I was using my mobile connection at work to listen to spotify music and Firefox/Mozilla came on my phone with a warning that I need to install this or I would get viruses on my phone and also said it detected some already ..is this just a hoax to get people to download this app now too ?

This is weird and should not occur. In any claims that your device would be infected is not from Mozilla and should be ignored. If you did not ignore it, and installed as asked - you might have installed malware on your device. You should download an app like Lookout Security to scan your device for infections. Also, if you could provide more details, or elaborate on what happened exactly, I can try and see what occurred.
