I cannot get mail on Thunderbird that I have installed on my Acer netbook. I can get mail from the same server on Thunderbird installed on my desktop. I was able to collect mail once on the netbook after several tries, but I have not been able to repeat my success.

What is the account type on both, desktop and netbook, POP or IMAP?

more options

Hi christ1:

Sorry I had to say "Not helpful". I didn't know how else to answer your question.

I am confused. The Account Settings/Server Settings on the desktop says POP, the netbook says IMAP. I didn't choose these in either case. When I installed Thunderbird, I just entered my email address and password, and Thunderbird did the rest. I think POP is correct because in Eudora, my Incoming Mail Server was pop.ca.inter.net

I can't see any way of changing the type of account.

OK, the desktop, using POP, is consuming the email messages, leaving nothing behind for the netbook to look at.

If you want to share email messages between the two, you need to be using IMAP on both. You can't change the existing account; you need to add it to Thunderbird again, but set it to use IMAP this time.
