when I click on the firefox icon the program will not open at all. The problem started 3 days ago and I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times and it has yet to resolve the issue. I am having to use internet explorer to try to trouble shot the problem, but unfortunately, most of the resolutions are done with in the program which makes for a difficult fix if it can not open.

Let's try a full re-install;

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then;

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.

What is your computer system and Firefox?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

While still in Safe Mode,

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

I am using windows 8.1 but even with the suggested solutions, the program still will not launch. I have attempted to locate firefox through the task manager to try to stop the process but this has not worked since the program is not listed on the task manager window. I have tried to uninstall and re-install the program as well as re-starting the computer.
