Firefox constantly crashes since the 2018 Windows 10 Spring Creators Update (1803). After opening it will crash anywhere from a few seconds to about a couple minutes. After I send in the report and restart it the same thing happens. It crashes even in safe mode. It was working fine before the update. No problems with Edge, Chrome, Opera, or other software. I have tried refreshing, reinstalling, turning off hardware acceleration, etc. I have used Firefox since the early days and sorely miss being able to use it.

Please Help.

Thanks.

I gather then you are running in the beta or pre-release then as Spring Update not released to the Public as of yet.

Please do this for Windows 10 just in case some things are mucked up :

  • Repair System Registry and Files

Find the Dos Prompt or Powershell then Right Click and Run as Administrator then : Copy/Paste to Dos Window : DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth then hit Enter. Reboot when completed. Note : DISM goes up to Microsoft for new files.

Please send up to 5 bp- files only as directed here so the come out as URL's on this end :

After can please search for Device Manager and check your Video Card Drivers and see if you are running Drivers that came from your Video Card maker or running MS Drivers. If running MS Drivers see if can get the proper drivers from the Video Card maker and install them. Let us know if you do.

Please also try : Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Hi Pkshadow. Thanks so much for your quick reply and help.

I am running the final release version of the Spring update which is available to Windows Insiders.

Also as I mentioned I had tried safe mode and it was still crashing.

As it happened I turned off accessibility service under Options/Privacy & Security, and Firefox has been stable since then. I don't know how Windows changed with that update to affect it but that seems to have worked. I still took your advice and did the DISM command and changed video drivers from MS to AMD.

Thanks again! I'm just so glad to have Firefox stable again. The other browsers have some benefits, but not the same to me. I've been using Firefox since it came out.

I still followed your advice and
