Note that in the address book, one can add "notes" to a contact (tab Other). E.g., I can add "plumber, fixed toilet in 2017" to Mario.

In Outlook, this is useful in two ways: - One can open a contact, and read "why do I have Mario's information? Oh, he's that plumber" - One can search their contacts, on "plumber", and find out that indeed, Mario was the one we were searching for, then call/mail/whatever.

The former is perfectly possible in Thunderbird. The latter seems not: neither in the quick search of the Address Book, nor in Edit->Search Addresses.

Is this easily implemented/circumvented/possible in Thunderbird?

The MoreFunctionsForAddressBook add-on adds Notes and other fields to the Address Book Search.
