How can I get firefox to open document links from sharepoint not in read only mode?

When opening documents from sharepoint they open in read only mode and does not sync back to sharepoint.

Hi jslone80, when you download a file in Firefox, it is a local copy and not linked back to the server. It is tagged with the network as the source, so Office applications open the copy in protected mode.

Does the Microsoft Edge browser retain a link back to the server when it downloads from Sharepoint? I wonder how it does that...
