Version prior to Thunderbird 78, had the option of searching / filtering across all configured email accounts. In Thunderbird 78, one needs to select the email account and then search. Also, the global search / filter option was available right above the Quick filter. Need the global search / filter back in Thunderbird 78.2 release.

Global Search is still available, if you have it enabled under Options/General/Indexing. If it's enabled but not showing with Ctrl+K, try safe mode (hold Shift when you launch TB) in case you have a broken layout ('Reset toolbars and controls' in safe mode prompt to fix).
