I have tried everything underneath the sun to try and add ecosia and swagbucks as my default search engines and I cannot do it. I HAVE to choose either Google or Bing.

I do not understand why I cannot talk directly to Firefox

Firefox is the name (third one for desktop version actually) of the web browsers for desktop (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux) and mobile versions for Android and iOS.

The company Mozilla does not have the resources to provide the call centres that would be needed to do one on one support by phone, chat or email for their many products. The desktop Firefox you are using is free to download and use and you can build it from source yourself if you want. None of the other companies that have free to use web browsers provide free one on one support. It is generally the products you paid for that tend to get one on one support options by phone, chat and or email because you well paid for it.

Please see the following link:

Tell me if it works.

Kind regards,

If it was that simple I would not be posting here.

Try the Mycroft Project. Otherwise, go to those sites and you should see an option to add their search engines in the dropdown from the search bar (or the address bar if you use that).

If you want to add a search engine, check this link: https://mycroftproject.com/

I do not understand why I cannot talk directly to Firefox and is the reason why I stopped using it last time. Seems like nothing has changed.

Hi,

I used the Mycroft Project and it worked perfectly for both Ecosia and Swagbucks. If you can not do the same, you may need to reset or reinstall Firefox.

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers. If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected by a team of people who read it and gather data about the most common issues.

You can also file a bug report or feature request. See File a bug report or feature request for Mozilla products for details.

I am not installing anything taht does not have swagbucks or ecosia as the author. Spamgirl? C'mon. Seriously.

The way that Firefox adds extensions is through a process like this.

You can go to the search website or Mycroft and right click the awesomebar to add them. If you must have something that is by the search engine, Ecosia made something that likely does the exact same thing in the backend.

I am a complete and total moron. I fixed it. I used the advice of andmagdo added Ecosia easy-peasy. Then I went back to mycroft and figured out what I did wrong. Instead of using the address bar as my search I added a separate search bar within the address bar and used drop down menu and voila!!!!

Thanks guys for helping and putting up with me.

If there is a default search engine you want the search bar to use click on the magnifying glass on left then the gear icon or go to hamburger menu and settings and Search.

I was able to add the Ecosia search engine while on the Ecosia page as I did not need to do the mycroft method.

Firefox used to do what?

Mozilla never did provide one on one support services. The closest Mozilla did one on one support was when Mozilla did long ago try experimenting with third-party options for pay for email and phone support for desktop Firefox but they were short lived.
