Hi Rick, what if you use the tiny search box at the top of the Settings page to filter for the section you want. For example, you could try password or autofill -- will Firefox show the relevant settings?

If not, maybe the last update corrupted the program files related to the page... I guess that is to be determined.

Hi, by locked do you mean that some settings are inaccessible, or that the entire panel is inaccessible?

If the panel is accessible:

If you check the "History" section of the Privacy & Security panel, is the one with some inaccessible settings set to never save history or to use automatic private browsing?

Either way:

If you type about:policies in the address bar and press Enter to load the About Policies page, do the "Active" panels look different on the two systems? (Normally, it just says "The Enterprise Policies service is inactive.")

Assuming the problem continues:

Could you test in Firefox's Troubleshoot Mode? In that mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is running:

You can restart Firefox in Safe/Troubleshoot Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Help > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)

and OK the restart. A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

If Firefox is not running:

Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.) A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

Note: Don't use the Refresh without first reviewing this article to understand what will be deleted: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

Any improvement?

active panels on both computers look the same "the enterprise..." the problem is when i go to settings on the problem computer, and click on privacy and security, it doesn't take me to that information. It just stays at General. So I can't manage the privacy and security. The other computer does take me to the info and I can manage privacy, passwords, auto fill etc.

thanks rick
