Something that you have downloaded/installed on your system has changed your keyword.URL preference to http://search.bearshare.com/web?src=ffb&q=. If the information entered in the URL/location bar can not be resolved, this will cause searches from the URL/location bar to go to the setting in keyword.URL pref. Completely uninstalling Bearshare can be difficult. Be careful what you download!

See: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&tbs=qdr%3Ay&q=%22firefox+remove+bearshare%22&btnG=Search

Reset keyword.URL preference -Enter about:config in the address/URL bar and press the Enter key -If you see a warning, accept it (Promise that you will be careful) -Filter = keyword.url -Below the Filter, right-click on keyword.URL and choose "Reset" -Restart Firefox (File > Restart Firefox)

Along with using the suggestion of about:config >>> keyword.URL you can also go to about:config and type bear into the filter box. For me, this brought up 3 other places where bearshare had become my search preferences. Just delete those to blank, or put in your own preferences.

Simple Solution:

  1. START - click SEARCH - all files and folders - type in BEARSHARE - modify search to include HIDDEN FILES - press Search to start. Files will be displayed, note the file name where they are hidden. RIGHT click and DELETE. (about 6 files).

Go to MY COMPUTER - PROGRAMS, then the name of hidden files to delete icons etc. Presto - everything gone.

To delete this annoyance you will need to delete all instances of 'bearshare' in the registry. There's about 7 - 10 keys all up.

Start > Run > Type 'regedit' > Tap 'F3', search 'bearshare' > enter > delete > F3 > Rinse-Repeat.

"Bob121" above me is right! You need to uninstall the mediabar and here is how to do that it worked for me and if you ask me its the right way instead of just deleting and resetting stuff ;)

1. Open my computer

2. Go in your main hdd (usually c:)

3. Open Program Files (on my windows 7 hp its in "program files (x86)"

4. Find "BearShare Applications" and open

5. Next open mediabar folder and find the uninstall file.

6. Uninstall and your all done just dont forget to change home page and restart firefox or iinternet explorer.

This is what solved my problem. If you could not find it in add\remove programs its because you already uninstalled "bearshare" but not that annoying mediabar page search thing which came with bearshare but uninstalls seperately. Hope this helps and or solves your problem! :)

I've been figuring out this all day, tried everything that was suggested on the net but none worked for me. I got tired and so this is what I did in the end:

If all else fails, UNINSTALL and then REINSTALL your browser, whichever one you are using.

This one worked for me. i hope it would for you too.
