I had my favorite radio station bookmarked and could listen to it live while working on my laptop. For some reason, after updates to Firefox, the listen live component of the bookmark does not work anymore and I cant hear anything. I tried typing in the address manually instead of going through the book mark but that doesn't work either. I can access the website of the radio station but when I click on the "listen live" button it appears to load and does not "buffer" or present the play/pause buttons. Cant hear anything either. If I use Explorer instead, everything works fine.

Try to install the new WMP plugin.

In my case it was not useful; the streaming was working on some sites, but not on http://www.radio24.ilsole24ore.com. In order to get it working I tried to:

  • disactivate all other sound plugins (no effect);
  • remove/reinstall WMP plugin (no effect)

at last, I tried to "unlock" the site using IE, and it worked!

I have the same issue with Listen Live. It works with MSIE but I'm reluctant to use it for well known reasons. I uninstalled then reinstalled Windows Media Player but still didn't work. If Firefox can't find a solution soon I'll try Apple's Browser as I hear it's quite good and also not susceptible to attacks.

Found a fix a for this issue: Download Firefox' Window Media Player and you're off: http://port25.technet.com/pages/windows-media-player-firefox-plugin-download.aspx. It would have been nice to see Firefox post their own answer instead of leaving us struggling!

I have a replacement HOSTS file which blocks undesirable web sites from within the TCP/IP stack. Unfortunately, some audio & video content on web sites has an advertisement embedded at the front of it & the content will absolutely refuse to play unless the $&*#^% ad plays first. So you must either edit your HOSTS file & unblock the site that is supplying the ad, if you can figure that out. Or you can temporarily just delete the HOSTS file while you launch the content & replace the HOSTS file once the ad has run. You might look at http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/ for more information on using your HOSTS file as an ad blocker.

YES! I used the WMP fix - (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Windows_Media_Player#Missing_plugin) - as a 'repair' and it worked just fine. thanks!!!

On a Mac you can try to run Firefox in 32 bit mode to see if that works.

  1. Close Firefox
  2. Open the Applications folder in Finder
  3. Right click or control-click the Firefox.app icon
  4. Select "Get Info"
  5. Select "Open in 32-bit mode"
  6. Close the "Firefox Info" window
  7. Restart Firefox

I had a similar problem. I could not listen to AOL online radio powered by Slacker after upgrading to Firefox 13.0.1. I could listen to AOL online radio when I used Internet Explorer. NONE of the suggested solutions worked for me.

I finally removed Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin and reverted back to Adobe Flash Player 10 (Shockwave Flash 10.3.183.20) and the PROBLEM HAS BEEN RESOLVED.

http://aolradio.slacker.com/ works fine for me in Firefox 13.0.1 on Windows 7 with the latest Flash 11.3 plugin.

Since this thread is over a year old, I'm going to lock it. If anyone else is having problems with Internet radio or other audio/video in Firefox, see the Fix common audio and video issues KB article or ask a new question.
