Have just installed an automatic update to Firefox (now version 3.6.15). Before, the update I could select a word by double-clicking it. Now double-clicking selects word + trailing spaces! Ouch!

Selecting in this way does correctly stop at punctuation, however.

Have found answer to my own question. The solution is to set (in about:config) layout.word_select.eat_space_to_next_word to "False". This is a toggle that defaults to "True". Be careful messing around in about:config !
