If I already have a tab (or more) open and I click on a link in an email (using my email client to view my email)...instead of opening the link in a new tab the link is opened using the open tab and canceling out whatever had been open in that tab before. If I configure FF tabs to open a new tab on every link I end up with too many tabs open at one time and everything freezes up. How can I configure my tabs so that clicking on a link in a n email or website opens in a new tab but nothing else unless I say so at the time?

You can middle-click a link to open the link in a new tab.
