firefox won't launch
Hi, all of a sudden on the 9th July, Firefox wouldn't launch. I've uninstalled a couple of time - once including all the cookie and browser info. I can't find the profile folder where it should be. There are no hidden applications or processes that I can see. I have multiple svchost processes working, are they ok? My in-depth computer knowledge is limited. I've rebooted countless times, opened in safe mode, uninstalled in safe mode. I downloaded Chrome to see if I could use that for now as I need to use the internet for my job. That has a similar problem.
With that in mind, it may not be exclusively a Firefox problem but I was on here trying to work it out so thought I'd ask. I'm using IE at the moment (boo hiss) and it will only find pages by going through Google. It won't accept addresses through the URL. I've uninstalled ZoneLabs in case that was a problem although I've had it for years with no problem. I turned off the Windows Firewall, NVIDIA firewall and turned off parts of Avast to see if they were blocking it. Nothing.
I'm at the end of my tether so if you know anything, please help.
Cheers Matt

Hi thanks for that. I've been through those pages already. I think maybe my lack of knowledge is hindering me somewhat. However the page you linked assumes two things: I can see the processes on Task Manager and I can start up Firefox. The latter is unusual. You see when it suggests changing or creating a profile, I have to use the profile manager which is part of Firefox - which I can't open.
I don't think a previous session is still running because I've restored and installed so many times.
While I appreciate the speedy response, if anyone has any ideas using words, I'd be extremely grateful. :0)
You could try downloading the complete installer and reinstalling Firefox. It might just work. You can create a new profile by deleting the old one, which will force Firefox to make a new one. Backup the old profile before doing that. Then try restoring certain files from the old profile into the new one. Cookies and bookmarks will not cause a problem, and permissions should not be a problem.
