I am a web developer , and for that I have 3-4 portable firefox versions . Today , FF 3.5 has updated itself to 12 even though the option to skip automatic updated was on. As a web developer , it is important for me to have MULTIPLE versions (hence the portable..) of FF to check compatibility issues . Further more - I am using a lot of add-ons and plugins (some of them custom made) that are not supported in newer versions .. How can I restore the OLD portable version with all it´s settings, and more important - how to prevent this from happening again ?

hello obmerk99, here's an archive of old portable editions: http://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Ed./

you can copy the Data\profile folder from your current portable directory into the older version. & in order to avoid any updates i can't really give you other advice than to totally disable auto-updates in options > advanced > update.

@madperson - thanks a lot for the answer (and for the LINK!) - The problem is that I left my computer running overnight and it has updated also all the add-ons ! (I lost the old versions...) The funny thing is that I have worked with this version for almost 4 years (!!) always with auto-update disabled , and there were NO problems until yesturday ! When looking at the update-log , I have seen that Firefox has made 3 consecutive (different) updates that night : 1 - from 3.5.2 (original ) to 3.6.28 2 - then from 3.6.28 to 12.0 3 - from 12.0 to 16.1

I have never changed any settings .. it is strange that after 4 years of idle state it has decided by itself to upgrade !
