Firefox will not start a new session, every time I start FF up again.

Whenever I start up Firefox it always restores the previous session. I have selected the option that starts a new session every time FF is started, but it still restores the session. It suddenly started one day, and won't return to normality again.

You can check if you have an user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Another theory to pursue if the above doesn't help: Firefox may resume a previous session if it detects that it did not shut down correctly after the previous session (i.e., if it thinks it crashed).
