I've been using firefox for years. Recently passwords stopped auto filling in webpages I have them saved on. The passwords are still in firefox, they just don't auto fill.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode (Never Remember History).

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

You can also check the signon.autofillForms pref on the about:config page.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Resetting seemed to work at first but it has now reverted to not saving passwords.

Are currently saved names and passwords still filled, either automatically to by selecting the name from the drop-down list?

Did you check the other suggestion apart from a reset made earlier in this thread?

Websites may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving and filling the name and password.

You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save names and passwords and other form data.

I am definitely not in private browsing mode. I have been using firefox for years and I am relatively fluent in how it operates. I did "restart" and try in safe mode. Restart seemed to solve the problem for a minute but the next time I tried the passwords weren't auto filling again. In the years I've been using firefox across multiple computers this has never happened.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
